August, 2006

  * From the user's point of view, very little was changed when compared to
     the previous releases. However ...

  * Internally, all the "special" monospaced font logic, including the
     "dragging cursor" logic, now uses pre-processed monospace fonts supplied
     as C header files, whereas in the previous release, any suitable font
     could be specified on the command line at runtime. This change was made
     to 1) relieve the user of having to deal with Pango font naming and other
     complexities, and 2) to making it easier keep the code in step with the
     GTK/Pango libraries as they evolve.

  * Various GTK function calls, notably in the menus, were updated to work
     with the libraries currently on the author's development system:
     atk 1.9.0, pango 1.8.0, glib 1.2.10, glib2 2.6.1 (gobject), and
     gtk/gdk 2.6.1.

  * Minor details were changed in the info files, such as updating the
     author's email address to 'lge.aka.jeff@gmail.com'.

  *  Current archive names:

         cpt-4.2-0-linux-x86-source.tgz
         cpt-4.2-0-linux-x86-shared.tgz

  * The source code was slightly changed to use the versions of glib,
     pango, atk, and gtk currently on the gtk web site, namely glib-2.2.3,
     pango-1.2.5, atk-1.2.4, and gtk+-2.2.4.

  * Static libraries for glib, pango, atk, and gtk were [finally!]
     successfully installed on the development system, a 'makefile.static'
     debugged, and a static version of cpt4 successfully linked; and notes
     regarding the arduous process of getting the static libraries installed
     was posted on the ecsi-dev web site.

  *  archive names:

      cpt-4.1.1-linux-x86-source.tgz
      cpt-4.1.1-linux-x86-shared.tgz
      cpt-4.1.1-linux-x86-static.tgz

     However, the static archive will not be posted to the to the web site
     at this time because it offers no new functionality compared to the
     4.0.1 static version, is not as thoroughly tested as the 4.0.1 version,
     and is a considerably larger archive than the 4.0.1 version.

  * The June 2000 'cpt-4.0.1-linux-x86-static.tgz' distribution was replaced
     on the web site by 'cpt-4.0.1s-linux-x86-static.tgz', which is identical
     except that the executables 'cpt4' and 'do_hart' were stripped,
     reducing the size of the archive by over 50 percent.

  * I've finally discovered how to use 'ispell'!

Sun Sep 28 2003

  * The source code had been massively changed to use the (almost) current
     releases of glib, GTK, Atk, and Pango; see INSTALL for version numbers
     and other dependencies. The functionality of the package has not been
     deliberately changed, and very little testing has been done to date.
     Beware especially of 'makefile.static' and 'static.sh', which are
     probably buggy at this point.

  *  archive names:

      cpt-4.1.0-linux-x86-source.tgz
      cpt-4.1.0-linux-x86-shared.tgz

     There is no statically linked distribution of version 4.1.0 as yet,
     simply because I don't the static linking process debugged yet.

  * Changed email address from the erroneous 'ecsi@acm.org' (should have
     been 'jeff.edwards@acm.org') to use new domain name: 'je@ecsi-dev.com'.

  *  Updated Help/About (email, and AUTHOR'S PLUG).

  * Updated cpt4home.html, which is the package "home page" and does not
     not appear in the distribution archives.

  *  Added this CHANGES file

  * Added the packaging scripts to the source distribution

  *  The binary distributions are now linked against Gtk+ 1.2.8;
     the previous distributions are now linked against Gtk+ 1.2.5.

  *  archive names:

      cpt-4.0.1-linux-x86-source.tgz
      cpt-4.0.1-linux-x86-shared.tgz
      cpt-4.0.1-linux-x86-static.tgz
