    add keymap for acer 1360, 1520, 1690, 3020, 3030, 3040, 5030, 5040

    The following patch adds support for the following Acer laptops to the
    keyboard quirks:

    Aspire: 1360, 1520, 1690, 3020, 3030, 3040, 5030, 5040
    Ferrari: 4000

    As per my discussion on the HAL mailing list with Richard Hughes,
    Fn+F3 (Power
    Management) is remapped to KEY_BATTERY, and the extra Euro and
    Dollar keys
    are left mapped to F14 and F15, but marked FIXME (pending a better
    solution
    upstream).

    -Carlos

    (Small informative aside - many of Acer's models are identical
    versions of the
    same hardware, just with a different processor. e.g. the 3020 and
    5020 are
    the same hardware, except with an AMD Sempron and Turion processor,
    respectively).

    1360 == 1520 (Odd, but the manual confirms this)
    3020 == 5020
    3030 == 5030
    3040 == 5040

    add keymap quirks for msi-s270

    The attached patch contains the keymap data for MSI S270 laptops.

    This laptop generates keyboard events when the power cable is plugged
    in/plugged out. These events are completely redundant, because ACPI
    events are sent anyway. Thus I'd like to map this key to some code
    where they are essentially eaten. KEY_RESERVED is not an option,
    because this still fills up dmesg with those well known warnings about
    setkeycode. I am now using KEY_UNKNOWN which fills up dmesg slightly
    less, but still generates a warning when X11 is listening for raw kbd
    events. Better then before but not much better. I guess it would make
    sense to have a proper KEY_NULL or similar in the kernel.

    fix dell latitude c800 video quirk

      On a Dell Latitude C800 with no quirks, resume from hibernation
    does not restore a useable X session (i.e. a casual observer would
    state resume from hibernation fails). One way to entice the resume
    to function correctly is via the quirk vbemode_restore, as included
    in the attached patch for hal-info. (When resuming into tty1, only
    selected characters in the lines above the initial prompt are
    visibly displayed, but all characters on the initial prompt line
    and following are correctly displayed.)

      I was cheeky enough to sort the matches within the Latitude group,
    as well as adding a new match. While the software should do quite
    well with these matches in random order, the human updaters may have
    less confusion if these remain sorted. If someone thinks this is
    helpful, they may like to also sort Inspiron before Latitude,
    etc. so that there should be even less of a risk of the file confusing
    its human readers.

    add ThinkPad T21 resume quirk

    The attached patch adds a rule for the power management quirk

    I tested that suspend+resume works correctly with the s3_bios quirk:
     1. running X with the radeon driver
     2. running X with the proprietary ATI fglrx driver
     3. from tty1 (well, using pm-suspend --quirk-s3-bios rather than the
	quirk coming from hal)

    I tested that not having the quirk breaks resume with both the
    radeon and fglrx drivers (didn't try tty1). I tested that also
    having the s3_mode quirk breaks resume using the fglrx driver
    (didn't try other cases).

    This testing was all done on Fedora 7, although using an older X
    server (from Fedora Core 6) that's needed for the fglrx driver.

    Just tried, it didn't work.

    But it works when disabling storage.media_check_enabled.

    I've attached a patch for hal-info for two keys we have with this
    problem.

    I'm wondering if polling is useful at all on usb sticks. But maybe we
    are forced to use it since we can't distinguish them from cards reader
    or floppy usb drive.

    add Acer Aspire 5610 to quirk database

    Here's what I did for my Acer Aspire 5610. I have no idea how it
    was working
    before (suspend to ram) with FC6, but with FC7 I need this and
    the pm-utils
    from FC8 ;-) to make the display wake up. If I don't use
    'pm-suspend --quirks-vbe-post' everything works but the display
    is dark.
    I can pm-suspend, wake it up, 'pm-suspend --quirks-vbe-post' and then
    after the resume the screen is full with blinking strange characters
    (one
    character all over the screen).

    fix dell d420 suspend quirks

    According to [1] and [2], the quirks for the Dell D410 laptop in
    hal-info break the suspend/resume (because of vbestate_restore). The
    attached patch fixes that (and uses the same quirks as s2ram).

    I guess, the quirks for D420 should be updated accordingly (at least
    s2ram uses the same vbe_post/vbemode_restore quirk for D410 and D420).

    remove quirks marked in s2ram as UNSURE

    This should take care of e.g.

     https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=238792

    where our quirks actually *prevented* a laptop from resuming.

    Bahh. Or one that applies. Git is too complicated for my little brain.

    Ok, I've tested :
    HP nc4200
    HP nx6125
    DELL 110L

    both HP laptops are suspending/resuming fine with vbemode_restore in
    both console and X, so quirk should be changed to vbemode_restore for
    them (I've attached a patch for this).

    Dell 110L is not fixable for both console and X at the same time.
    Enabling vbestate_restore crashes X server and it is not able to start
    again correctly without a system reboot. So, for now, it is probably
    best to not change quirks for this laptop, I'll keep a patch in our
    package.

    I don't have access anymore to nx6110 nor nc6220 laptops so it is
    probably safe to not change quirks for them either (although I think
    using vbemode instead of vbestate will probably work) for now,
    I'll keep
    a vendor patch for now. Of course, if somebody has such a laptop,
    he is
    welcome to report tests :)

    So, unless there is objection, it is safe to commit the attached patch
    to hal-info and to forget my proposal for multiple quirks, based on vt
    mode, in a previous mail.

    Thanks you.

    really fix path expansion in hal-info

    this patch for hal-info really fixes configure path expansion in
    hal-info by simply removing it, because it plain and simple doesn't
    work. A ./configure invocation without arguments and with autoconf >=
    2.60 currently prints the following:

			hal-info 20070313
		      ========================

	    prefix:			/usr/local
	    datadir:			${prefix}/share
	    sysconfdir:			/usr/local/etc
	    hardware recall data:	yes
	    video suspend data:		yes

    As you can easily see, sysconfdir is expanded, but datadir is not.
    That's because AS_AC_EXPAND messes around with autoconf internals that
    have changed in autoconf 2.60.

    It pretends to expand things, but doesn't actually do it. The
    proper fix
    for that is to stop messing around with autoconf internals,
    i.e. to not
    use AS_AC_EXPAND any more.

    With the attached patch, configure prints all variables unexpanded and
    as derived from each other, which is the truth. With autoconf 2.60 it
    looks like this:

			hal-info 20070313
		      ========================

	    prefix:			/usr/local
	    datarootdir:		${prefix}/share
	    datadir:			${datarootdir}
	    sysconfdir:			${prefix}/etc
	    hardware recall data:	yes
	    video suspend data:		yes

    With autoconf 2.59 it looks a little different because it does
    not have
    datarootdir yet:

			hal-info 20070313
		      ========================

	    prefix:			/usr/local
	    datarootdir:		unused
	    datadir:			${prefix}/share
	    sysconfdir:			${prefix}/etc
	    hardware recall data:	yes
	    video suspend data:		yes

    There is no need to worry about unexpanded variables in output files
    because hal-info does not have any. It has only Makefiles as output
    files and in Makefiles, variables don't need to be expanded. In fact
    they must not be expanded because that would prevent users from
    redefining them while running make. This is the reason why stock
    autoconf without AS_AC_EXPAND-style hacks does not offer any way to
    expand them. If it had any output files where variables have to be
    expanded, dedicated make rules would have to be written for them. See:

    http://www.gnu.org/software/autoconf/manual/html_node/Installation-Directory-Variables.html#Installation-Directory-Variables
    http://www.gnu.org/software/autoconf/manual/html_node/Defining-Directories.html

    Other than the hal patch I submitted via bugzilla some time ago, which
    was just a sample that somehow went in, this one is a distcheck tested
    patch that can be applied as-is. It also removes two incorrect and
    superfluous AC_SUBST usages as well as the GTK_DOC_CHECK which
    hal-info
    never actually used at all.

    hal itself needs more changes to entirely get rid of AS_AC_EXPAND and
    comply with autotools coding rules. The good news is that in *most*
    places it already does the right thing, but not everywhere. I can work
    on a patch for that as well, if desired.

    fix the smbios.*.* keys to be a little more sane

    Attached are two patches against hal and hal-info that deprecate the
    smbios.* keys and replace them with:

    smbios.system.manufacturer	    -> system.hardware.vendor
    smbios.system.product	    -> system.hardware.product
    smbios.system.version	    -> system.hardware.version
    smbios.system.serial	    -> system.hardware.serial
    smbios.system.uuid		    -> system.hardware.uuid
    smbios.bios.vendor		    -> system.firmware.vendor
    smbios.bios.version		    -> system.firmware.version
    smbios.bios.release_date	    -> system.firmware.release_date
    smbios.chassis.manufacturer     -> system.chassis.manufacturer
    smbios.chassis.type		    -> system.chassis.type

    This means stuff like OLPC and N800 doesn't have to use the
    smbios.bios.* prefix for system firmware and is therefore more
    abstract.

    This is important to get in before 0.5.9 as hal-info spec can't change
    after it's formally released.

    The old keys are copied from the new names, so everything should
    work as
    it used to.

    cleanup and downsize usb music player FDI file

    Cleaned up the FDI-file for USB music players. Removed the common
    properties
    from the specific matches and added them to the end of the file to
    get them
    merged to all devices with the key portable_audio_player.type.

    This make the file smaller and reduce the need to always add the
    same keys for
    each device (and reduce IMO also the fdi-cache file).

    If you add devices to the list which don't need all the common keys,
    add the
    device to the end of the list.

    music players from Ubuntu

    Various Ubuntu users contributed FDIs for their pet music players.
    Since these are certainly useful for other distros as well, do you
    consider adding them upstream?

    Thank you!
